UI DESIGN CASE STUDY
Designing 500+ custom icons to unify, elevate and strenghten a brand’s UI
A Scalable Icon Library
CFI was in search of a custom icon library to align their marketing site with the financial learning platform. The goal was scalable, consistent icons that matched their branding. I collaborated closely with engineers to bring this to life.

The Solution
I designed the icons on a precise grid system, drawing inspiration from Google’s icon guidelines to ensure clarity at small sizes. Each icon was crafted to feel consistent in weight, balance, and rhythm, while flexible enough to scale across different contexts. When CFI acquired Macabacus—a leading productivity add-in for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word—the project grew significantly. I partnered closely with an engineer to adapt Microsoft’s default Office icons into Macabacus-branded versions. This required months of detailed work: redrawing hundreds of icons, applying Macabacus’ color system, and testing across different software environments.

The Impact
In total, I designed 500+ custom icons—a library that gave CFI and Macabacus a cohesive visual language across marketing and product. While I transitioned roles before seeing the final integration into the Microsoft Suite for users that subscribed with Macabacus, this project remains one of my most technical and detail-driven design challenges, showcasing my ability to blend craft, consistency, and system thinking at scale.
